Smiths of England produced high-grade marine timepieces under the Astral brand during the early to mid-20th century, often utilised on naval and commercial vessels for precision navigation.

These clocks typically feature heavy turned wooden housings made from mahogany or oak, paired with brass bezels, thick bevelled glass lenses, and enamelled metal dials.

Authentic pieces usually feature signature dial markings such as Smiths Astral text, precise subsidiary seconds dials, robust mechanical movements, and serial numbers stamped on the backplate.

Mounting the timepiece on a panelled study wall, above a mantle, or within a hallway provides a striking focal point that complements both traditional and industrial decor schemes.

Mechanical movements require professional servicing every few years, regular winding using the correct key, and placement away from excessive moisture and direct sunlight to preserve the wood and brass finishes.
