An unusual 17th century oak chair with a lift up seat over a storage area, with bobbin turned spindles to the back and stretchers to the base, and the original iron butterfly hinges on the seat.

A beautiful and unusual late 17th century oak chair with a useful storage space below the seat. The bobbin turned spindles sit between egg and fillet rails and are capped by button finials. The square uprights are finished with a carved scroll shape detail. The turned legs are united by bobbin turned stretchers. The seat is hinged on iron butterfly hinges which appear to be original.

The seat height is 47cm.

The chair has good colour and patina and has polished up beautifully with some beeswax.
