17th century and later. Deep chestnut colour and rich patination. Beautifully carved throughout with mythical dragons to the top rail & sides , also incorporating the legendary green man , forest - god , The Green man is interpreted in European folk law as a symbolism of rebirth . The carved central panel depicting a mother with her three small children making an offering . A sturdy completely usable chair of heavy pegged construction .
