Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French portico clock is an architectural timepiece popularised in early 19th-century France, characterised by classical columns supporting an upper pediment or entablature that frames a central suspended pendulum.

These timepieces were traditionally crafted using fine hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or ebonised wood, often embellished with satinwood marquetry, gilt-bronze mounts, and brass clockwork mechanisms.

Authentic period examples typically feature hand-cut marquetry or cast brass mounts, an eight-day countwheel movement with a pendulum suspension, and French maker stamps or serial numbers on the brass movement backplate.

Place the clock as a central focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table, pairing it with minimalist contemporary artwork or symmetrical brass accessories to complement its architectural silhouette.

Position the clock away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dust the wooden case gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and ensure the mechanical movement is inspected and oiled by a professional horologist every three to five years.
