Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII, often drew inspiration from earlier periods such as Sheraton, Chippendale, and Hepplewhite, combining lighter proportions with refined craftsmanship and delicate inlay work.

Longcase clocks were traditionally constructed using a solid timber frame, frequently faced with decorative wood veneers like mahogany, oak, or walnut, and featured brass dials, iron or brass movements, and lead weights.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate hand-cut dovetail joints, aged patina on the timber, maker signatures engraved on the brass dial, and mechanical movements showing signs of hand-finishing rather than modern mass production.

Placing a traditional tall clock in a contemporary setting creates a striking focal point, anchoring minimalist rooms with organic texture, vertical lines, and historical contrast.

To preserve antique clocks, keep them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, dust the case regularly with a soft dry cloth, and have the mechanical movement professionally serviced every few years.
