ANTIQUE #SA923976

A Scottish George IV Ebonised Library Bergere Armchair

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jeckyll & Co

The hoop-shaped back with scrolling top rail, supported on bobbin turned spindles and terminating in arm terminals carved with lotus leaves. The original horsehail squab cushion with contemporary buttoned upholstery resting on a woven cane seat. With turned and fluted front legs and solid brass castors.

Well presented condition overall. The frame is beech and has been re-ebonised in places, with the finish wearing thinner in some areas. The woven cane seat is in excellent condition, the front legs have had one or two isolated bumps and bruises. The brass caps are probably original, the brass castors later. There are further isolated and minor dents and scratches commensurate with age and use.

In all a striking and stylish chair

The height to the front of the seat rail is 37cm, and 42cm with the squab cushion.
