Incredible to have survived in such intact condition, it does need some small repairs. A lovely canopied design and with a hole in the seat for storage, a real museum piece. This is an ancient method of furniture making which was discovered in Britain by the Romans. A very similar lipp-work chair is shown in the Christopher Gilberts English Vernacular Furniture book. In the book it is mentioned that this canopied version is the earliest form of a Lipp-Work straw chair with one in the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford. One other is in the Welsh Folk Art Museum.
