Antique Set of Ten 10 English Georgian Hepplewhite Style Shield Back Mahogany Dining Chairs (Circa 1880)

Here is a fine quality antique set of 10 Georgian Style Dining Chairs, in the style of Hepplewhite period, with shield backs, constructed in the Victorian period, circa 1880, in excellent condition. The set consists of eight side chairs and two armchairs. The 10 Georgian Style Dining Chairs are constructed of solid mahogany and feature a moulded shield back design; incorporating a central carved wheat motif pediment above five finely executed pierced moulded shaped splats, flanked by moulded vertical rails. These are a heavy set of chairs which indicates they are of very good quality. The 10 Georgian Style Dining Chairs are raised on tapering moulded legs, terminating on spade feet to the front, with sabre legs to the rear, united by a “H” stretcher for additional strength. The armchairs mirror the design of the singles, with the addition of two splayed reeded arms, secured by shaped vertical supports. The underside of the chairs retains their wooden slat corner supports; later chairs were constructed with solid corner blocks. Please note, this is a true set of 10 Georgian Style Dining Chairs; they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs.

Condition Report:

Set of 10 Georgian Style Dining Chairs, in the style of Hepplewhite period, with shield backs, constructed in the Victorian period, circa 1880, in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frames and legs, but nothing significant considering the age of them. The chair frames have been cleaned and French polished in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The seats have been recently upholstered; therefore, the fabric is in excellent and clean condition. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice. If you would like the seats recovered, please contact us for a quote. The 10 Georgian Style Dining Chairs retain the original polish; therefore, they boast a fantastic patination and colour, which cannot be recreated if the chairs were re-polished. This is a true set from the day of their construction (they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs). The chairs are solid in joint; they do not wobble and they are ready to use.
