George II Walnut Side Chair

A quite exceptional large 18th Century George II Walnut Side Chair of outstanding colour and condition. Having superbly carved and well drawn cabriole legs finishing at the base with the most wonderful claw and ball foot imaginable. The flowing back with carved scrolls to the crest and cross grain walnut legs flanking the veneered splat to the centre. The large and fabulously shaped seat having cross grained Walnut rails and ogee moulding to the edge. It is a master class in English Chair making of the early 18th Century.
 
The seat framework is original and ready for upholstery to be added. Remarkably on removal of the old upholstery we discovered the original blue patterned silk underneath, it was in very bad condition. We have however kept it as a reference. What is possibly even more remarkable is that the seat rail is signed Samuel Harris of Manchester and dated 1745 by the original upholsterer.
