A marble French Art Deco Clock, by the highly regarded Sculptor Demetre Chipurus (unsigned). Other examples of these signed figures exist, as shown in some of the images.
Two young girls, hold each other as they peer cautiously at a marabou bird. The figures in spelter. Neighbourhood children often posed for Chiparus, at his atelier in the Barrault, Paris. It is recorded, ‘they were the least expensive models of all, content with a few sweets’. The end result was a series of sentimental and sometimes amusing pieces, known as ‘The Children Series’. These were early works before he developed his dazzling sculptures of young dancers, which were to become his trademark.
To the centre a square chrome dial and bezel, with good black Art Deco numerals and hands. The dial signed Le Roux Quimper. A chrome diamond shaped pendulum hangs beneath.
As with all our clocks, it has been professionally cleaned and serviced by a qualified horologist.
The clock in overall very good condition.
