Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fusee bracket clock is a spring-driven portable timepiece utilising a conical pulley mechanism (the fusee) to equalise the power output from the mainspring as it unwinds. Popularised in Britain from the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries, these clocks were traditionally placed on wall brackets or mantels to serve as accurate room timepieces.

Traditional bracket clocks feature cases crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or ebony, highlighted with brass mounts, glass bezels, and cast feet. The internal movements consist of brass plates, steel gears, and a pendulum mechanism.

Authentic nineteenth-century English fusee clocks feature heavy brass plate movements, single or double fusee assemblies with steel wire or chain, and hand-engraved maker names on the dial or backplate. Case details include cast brass hardware, flame timber veneers, and period-appropriate joinery.

A mahogany bracket clock serves as a sophisticated focal point when positioned on a fireplace mantelpiece, a library bookcase, or a mahogany console table. Pairing the rich timber and brass accents against neutral or muted walls provides a layered aesthetic in contemporary spaces.

Keep the clock positioned on a level surface away from direct sunlight, dampness, and severe temperature fluctuations. Winding should be performed regularly using a correctly fitted key, and internal mechanical movements should be professionally cleaned and lubricated by a horologist every five to seven years.
