M. C. Taylor has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Also having shouldered plates, top micrometer regulation to the pendulum and a pendulum transit bracket and knob.

The seven inch diameter, bowed and painted dial has its original off-white background paint and a black inked minute track and Roman hour numerals. The steel 'spade' hands are beautifully blued and the dial sits behind a fixed 'Sheraton' style cast brass bezel with a snapped-in bowed glass.

The mahogany break-arch case being of excellent colour and patina has a cast brass, swinging carry handle mounted upon the single, brass-framed pad top. The top has a well-proportioned return moulding to all sides and the 'full opening', locking front door has quartered veneer that is strung with boxwood. The full-size locking rear door is glazed and the sides have high, arched top, cast brass fishscale sound frets that are backed with red cloth. The short plinth has a conforming top moulding and sits upon four brass 'ball-and-plate' feet.

Rarely is such an unspoiled and original example of this type of clock seen. The appearance can only be described as charming with a mellow colour and patina.
