A fine pair of mid-18th century Chippendale period mahogany side chairs with serpentine backs and seats, having stuff-over seats with boldly carved decoration, supported on carved square legs with stretchers.(Small differences to carving) Further Information: These chairs relate closely to a matching armchair and details for ''French Chair'' designs in the George II manner is illustrated in Thomas Chippendales ''The Gentleman and Cabinet Makers Director London 1754'' The pattern relates closely to a suite of Library Armchairs from Swinton Hall in Yorkshire and now attributed to the Yorkshire cabinet makers Wright and Elwick who were known to have worked with William Danby at Swinton in around 1775, and who were both subscribers to the first edition of the Director.
