Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This Victorian walnut pier cabinet bookcase stands as a practical piece of antique English country house furniture, finished in a warm brown timber with visible floral marquetry inlays and gilt metal ormolu mounts. The structure incorporates a single glazed door that opens to reveal light-coloured shelves, decorated with ornate brass hardware including a hanging tassel key and detailed corner mounts. Additional visual elements include intricate marquetry patterns down the front pilasters, a decorative central rosette on the side panel, and a moulded plinth base resting on bracket feet. Measuring 108 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, this cabinet brings period charm to a living room, hallway, or study. It functions well as a display case for books, decorative objects, or treasured collections while adding a traditional aesthetic to daily interior spaces.

Pier cabinets originated in the 19th century, designed specifically to occupy the narrow wall space between windows, known as a pier, and typically feature glazed single doors and intricate decorative inlays.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from high-grade figured veneers such as walnut or rosewood, adorned with floral wood marquetry, cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts, and fabric-lined interiors.

Authentic period pier cabinets feature hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass escutcheons, natural wood veneer marquetry, and consistent age-related oxidation across wood surfaces and gilt metal mounts.

Position the cabinet as a standalone accent piece in a hallway, dining space, or living area, utilizing the glass-fronted shelves to curate collection items, leather-bound books, or fine ceramics.

Dust surfaces regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply natural beeswax polish sparingly to the timber, keeping wax clear of gilt metal mounts which require only gentle dusting with a dry brush.
