Miles Griffiths Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
They are both in very good condition and feature original rush seats that are in great condition. A large and comfortable size, the armchairs have ring turned uprights and stretcher whilst the pad feet are copied on the back uprights. A great design, William Birch was an Arts and Crafts furniture designer who specialised in chair making. Based in High Wycombe, Birch’s furniture factories were a main supplier of furniture for Liberty, London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The rush-seated antique dining chairs he made in the 1890s, like these, are still prized for their comfort today.
