Description

This is a magnificent 19th century Italian Savonarola chair with a bold impact and great decorative appeal dating from around 1850.

The chair exhibits superb carving throughout the piece with wonderful lions mask arms with flowing manes and griffins and other mythical creatures reclining across the central crest. The cartouche to the back has a central roundel carved with Dante in profile which is flanked by stunning dragons and a further lions mask beneath. The superb showpiece back is flanked by carved lions heads with angels wings and an angelic head central to the piece. The legs have carved entwined serpents decending to Bacchus masks toes at the front.

A most impressive throne chair that measures 120 cms high by 80 cms wide by 70 cms deep overall.

The seat is 65 cms high from the floor and 55 wide between the arms. It and has its original feather filled velvet cushion.
