Description:

Here is a superb quality pair of antique English Victorian solid mahogany revolving office armchairs, circa 1880, boasting a stunning rich colour, in excellent original working condition. The chair features a curved bar back, secured by wraparound arms, on shaped vertical supports. Below the bar back is an elegant vertical pierced back splat, framed below by a curved rail on shaped supports, uniting the shaped scroll bar back and wraparound arms with the seat frame. The seat itself is saddle shaped and the chair is very comfortable to sit on, with or without the cushion. The chair rotates 360 degrees. The chair mechanism has been cleaned and serviced and is in good working order. The chair stands on solid shaped legs, united by shaped cross-stretchers for additional strength, terminating on the original solid brass castors. The chair is very comfortable to sit on, has a lovely colour and is in good condition.

Condition Report:

Here is a superb quality pair of antique English Victorian solid mahogany revolving office armchairs, circa 1880, boasting a stunning rich colour, in excellent original working condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chair frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair frames have been cleaned and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. Therefore, the finish, colour and patination are of an excellent standard. The original revolving ball bearing mechanism is in good working order, having been stripped down, cleaned and serviced. There is some play to the mechanism, but this is perfectly acceptable, and in line with the age of the chair, and will be found in all office chairs of this age. The shaped legs terminate on solid brass and castors, which are in good condition. The chairs are well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
