Large French Landscape Paint and Gilt Mirror

19th century
Description

This is a very large French 19th century paint and gilt mirror with a beautifully aged finish, circa 1860 and with its original mercury glass.

The mirror can be hung either "landscape" like this, or "portrait" if you'd rather and it would make a good dressing mirror if leant against a wall for example!

Fantastically decorative with the finish and the corner mouldings are superb and all in good condition with some of the original gold leaf remaining. The painted finish has an ivory tone to it, so it will blend with everything really. Great mirror and with great proportions to hang landscape like this as a free hanging mirror in a hall or over a large sideboard for example.

The mercury mirror plate does have some light foxing to the edges, but nothing of any concern. The back of the mirror is all in its original condition with full panels, so it has protected the glass well.
