Stunning Large French Carved Leather Chair Griffins

Description

This is a really impressive mid 19th century French armchair with stunning carved detail upolstered in a lovely nut brown antique leather. The chair has a turned barley twist framework with fabulous stylised lions heads to the arms and a wonderful central crest panel with a fine pair of Griffins facing each other with coiled spear ending tails. The colour and patina are superb and the chair oozes character. There are the usual signs of old worm to the piece but treated, and long gone and the structure and stability of the chair is totally sound. The leather seat appear to be the original with a couple of old repairs but again is sound and useable in good order overall. This is of French origin, Dordogne region and is dating from around 1860.

The chair is a most imposing piece with loads of charm and has a great look in any setting.

The chair measures 134 cms high, 70 cms wide by 70 cms deep. The seat height is 47 cms.
