Set of Twelve 19th Century 'Holland & Sons' Dining Chairs

Description

A rare and lovely set of twelve, 19th Century oak, country house dining chairs by 'Holland & Sons'. The oak moulded frames retain their original, and worn, burgundy leather upholstery which has been repaired in places. The front legs are turned and the back legs elegantly sweep outwards. Some of the chairs have the original 'Holland' stencils.

The firm of Holland & Sons (1803–1942), founded by William Holland, became one of the largest and most successful fine cabinet makers of the 19th Century, and a rival to Gillows of Lancaster and London.
