High Quality Captain's Windsor Chair

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Waterfall Antiques

A fine example of a 19th century Windsor chair, sometimes referred to as a captain''s chair or a smoker''s bow. It has eight turned spindles beneath the oxbow arm rest, and the solid elm seat is supported by strong gently-splayed legs united by a double-H stretcher. This superb chair has not been re-polished; it retains its original finish with an abundance of honest charm and character. It is structurally sturdy and has no woodworm, past or present. Suitable for any room in the house, and ideal for kitchen use at a refectory table, the seat having a standard height of 18'' (45cms). English, c.1870s.
