Important Pair of Chippendale Side Chairs

18th century
Description

Important pair of mid 18th century Chippendale red walnut side chairs. These are large generous size chairs and being solid red walnut are quite heavy. Square legs with quarter moulded corners and chamfered inner corners united by stretchers all round. Superb pierced and carved backs straight out the Chippendale directory. The chairs are nicely upholstered in very good quality fabric which is also clean.

The chairs are basically in very good order, there are a couple of minor age shakes in places and a couple of minor old repairs but they are both perfectly solid and sturdy.

PROVENANCE; Shotover Park near Oxford. Used in the family box at Royal Ascot.

SIZE; 23" across the fronts, 19" deep and 37" high. Seat height is 19".
