A very fine quality set of six mahogany dining chairs INCLUDING TWO CARVERS, by the eminent London cabinet makers James Winter of 101 Wardour Street, each chair stamped individually.
The finely figured curved backrests above a central horizontal bar, descending to drop-in seats, supported on well carved tulip pattern legs. Circa 1840.
Good condition throughout, constructed in the finest mahogany. The upholstery is tired and with some stains, ready to re-cover.
James Winter, 101 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1, was a furniture maker and retailer between 1823-1870, In the 1840''s the company moved to larger premises at 151,153, 155 Wardour Street and later became James Winter and Son. The chairs therefore date to pre the 1840''s move. Furniture bearing their stamp is invariably of the highest order for the period.
