Set of Six Mahogany Dining Chairs by James Winter of London

19th century
Description

A very fine quality set of six mahogany dining chairs INCLUDING TWO CARVERS, by the eminent London cabinet makers James Winter of 101 Wardour Street, each chair stamped individually.

The finely figured curved backrests above a central horizontal bar, descending to drop-in seats, supported on well carved tulip pattern legs. Circa 1840.

Good condition throughout, constructed in the finest mahogany. The upholstery is tired and with some stains, ready to re-cover.

James Winter, 101 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1, was a furniture maker and retailer between 1823-1870, In the 1840's the company moved to larger premises at 151,153, 155 Wardour Street and later became James Winter and Son. The chairs therefore date to pre the 1840's move. Furniture bearing their stamp is invariably of the highest order for the period.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
