Description:
This is a fine quality Georgian mahogany Gentleman’s side chair, circa 1780, in the style of the Chippendale period, with large proportions, with a newly upholstered seat, in excellent condition. The proportions of this chair are more suited to a gentleman. The chair is constructed of solid mahogany and features a shaped top rail, with a finely executed pierced central fretwork back splat, flanked by vertical moulded rails. Incorporating a drop-in seat design, the seat frame is finely moulded. The seat has been newly upholstered in top quality embroidered structured silk & cotton upholstery in a pale gold colour, with a diamond, and new hessian underside. Therefore, the seat is in excellent and clean condition, with no marks. The seat is well padded and firm but comfortable at the same time – you do not sink into the seat. The chair features cabriole legs to the front, with shell carving to the knees, and chamfered sabre legs to the rear. Chairs with chamfered legs denote quality.

Condition Report:
The chair is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the frames, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair joints have been glued in our workshop; therefore, the chairs are now solid in joint. The chair has been French polished by hand to a professional standard; therefore, the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The seat has been newly upholstered in top quality embroidered structured silk & cotton upholstery in a pale gold colour with a diamond pattern. Therefore, the seat is in excellent and clean condition, with no marks. The seat is well padded and firm but comfortable at the same time – you do not sink into the seat. It is solid in joint (not loose or wobbly) and ready to use.
