George III Flame Mahogany Cross-banded Cutlery Box with Original Interior.

Description

A fine quality George III flame mahogany and cross-banded cutlery box with inlaid shell patera to the top and the original cross-banded fitted interior. The front boasts a white metal armorial cartouche with the monogram 'JWB', beneath a white metal escutcheon.

The knife box shows signs of age and wear particularly to the front foot, extremities and to the top right section of the fitted interior (please see photographs). Regardless, the box remains an extremely attractive piece. The lid sits well open and closed, and the hinges operate with ease.
