Regency Giltwood Henry Holland Armchair

A fantastic Regency giltwood armchair of shapely form. The scrolled back with raised stepped roundels leading down to scroll arms and carved foliate cornucopia motifs, similarly repeated to the seat and scrolls to the front rail, with reeded panels to the corners and raised on exaggerated sabre legs. Retaining its original gilt. By Henry Holland, London. Circa 1810.

This elegant chair reflect the designs of Royal architect/designer Henry Holland and the furniture supplied under his direction to Samuel Whitbread II for the drawing room of Southill Park, Bedfordshire beginning in 1796 (see M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture 1795-1830, London, 1965, p. 18, fig 9).
