Description:
Here is a stunning quality set of six English antique William IV solid mahogany bar back dining chairs, circa 1840, with newly upholstered seats, in excellent condition. These strong chairs are designed with an attractive bar shaped back, comprising of a curved, acanthus carved top rail, above a moulded, curved bar back splat, connected to shaped, moulded vertical supports. The chairs feature stuff-over seats, which have been professionally upholstered in new top-quality taupe colour structured cotton material, finished with traditional hessian backing to the underside. The seat frame is raised on turned front legs, with sabre legs to the rear. This set of chairs boasts the original polish; therefore, they have a fantastic depth of colour and patination, displaying a lovely rich red and brown colour.
Condition Report:
These chairs are in excellent condition. This is a true set of chairs (i.e. not matched together from other sets of similar chairs). Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chairs but nothing significant considering their age. The chairs have been French polished in our workshop by hand, to a professional standard. Therefore, they have a fantastic colour and patination. The stuff-over seats have been newly upholstered to a professional standard. The upholstery is therefore clean and free from wear and marks. If you do not like the colour/style of the upholstery, we can recover the seats in a fabric of your choice. If you would like the seats recovered, please contact us for a quote. The chair frames have been glued and are all solid in joint. The chair frames and joints are all in good condition, solid in joint and ready to be used.
