A Set of 4 Yew Wood Windsor Chairs Nicholson Rockley

Description

A Good set of four low back Windsor Chairs in Yew wood with an Elm seat the back legs are Ash which is the norm on these chairs one is stamped Nicholson Rockley, George Nicholson ran this workshop after the retirement of William Wheatland from c 1828 to c 1840, The chairs are in excellent condition and have the crinoline stretchers typical of Rockley chairs. Rockley is a tiny hamlet close to Retford in North Nottinghamshire it is a well known area for making quality Windsor Chairs in the early part of the 19th century.
