Set Of 8 19th Century Mahogany Dining Chairs

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Christine Kavanagh Antiques

A set of six singles plus two carver dining chairs in the Hepplewhite manner. The chairs are all in lovely condition with a waxed patination showing the tight grain. Made around 1890 to 1900 with fine timber, crisp carving showing the quality of this set.. The backs have an elegant waisted silhouette and a good “raked” angle away from the seat which makes them very comfortable. The seats are a dished design, faithful to the Hepplewhite original of 100 years earlier. Finally the needlepoint seats were clearly individually made for each chair, the tapestry is still in super condition, applied using traditional techniques including horsehair stuffing. This was probably done almost 100 years ago, and is remarkable for its lack of ware. Dimensions given are for the carver chairs.
