Superb Yew Wood Low Back Windsor Chair

A wonderful example of a yew wood Windsor chair from the North Nottinghamshire area. The chair is almost all yew wood with elm only used on the seat as it always is and on the back legs. The legs are particularly well turned both front and back and are united by a crinoline stretcher. The arms and chair back are all yew with lots of bur timber used for decorative effect. The back splat is beautifully shaped and pierced. The whole is in superb untouched condition, there is no damage or repair. The patina and colour is superb throughout. This is an excellent example of this type of chair which is the best model made by the finest Windsor chair makers. Made in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, C.1850.
