This really is an exceptionally good French Louis Philippe style c19th gilt oval mirror with the best ribbon cartouche I have had the pleasure of seeing and of great proportions.
The size of this mirror and the fabulous ribbons really does set this mirror apart from others. The mirror is in great original condition and has aged gracefully, including the original mercury mirror plate which is beautifully foxed, but not too much!
The frame of the mirror has floral and leaf figuring with some of the base red gesso coming through the original water gilding and gives a wonderful effect.
Hopefully the photos will do this mirror justice, but I have shown it hanging over a chest of drawers to give you a sense of proportion.
Any queries, do let me know and if you are able, you are very welcome to come and see this mirror and any others I have from yourself.
