Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
It was once the "Palazzo Lomellino", on the Strada Nuova in Genoa. This "Strada Nuova of the Palaces" became a new magnificent town district where the aristocracy of the day, satisfying its lust for self-celebration, vied with each other by commissioning elegant houses to the most important architects of the time.

In 1865 the Baron Andrea Podestà, an important personality at that time in Genoa and mayor of the city three times, took over the estate.
Theodoro Montarsolo, who specialised in carving and gilding, was commissioned to make the mirror for the palace.
Some of the glass has been replaced over the years.
