Georgian Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The slightly outswept back legs over small pad feet with small bracing stretcher between, and a large curved stretcher at an unusual height runs to the front legs. The club-shaped front legs with framed harebells to the knees, quarter brackets and extended s-scrolls, over ball and claw feet.
Firm attribution supplied by Sebastian Pryke, and based on similarity to the design of chairs found in Dumfries House, which holds the only documented collection of furniture by Alexander Peter. The set of 22 chairs by Peter can be found in the Pink Dining Room.
