Description

A most attractive oval gilt-framed mirror that can be a general purpose wall-hung looking glass or, with its built-in adjustable easel mechanism, a dressing-table mirror. Its original mercury glass plate, having a beautiful glistening reflection, has a couple of desilvered patches but is still everyday useable. The plain-moulded frame has scrolling acanthus leaf supports and a stunning, elaborate intertwined ribbon surmount. The original water-gilded finish is of a soft colour with a rich lustre shine. English, c.1870.
