Pair Of 18th Century Mahogany Hepplewhite Armchairs

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Holmes Antiques

A fine pair of 18th century Mahogany Hepplewhite Armchairs of the most superb colour and patina. The delicately carved wheat sheaf along with the well shaped splat and arcading to the base help to lift these chairs above the average examples. It is worth noting the amount of chamfer to the back of the chair splat that has been perfectly executed by the craftsman, it was often used at this period to lighten the look of the chair. The arms and uprights are well shaped and carved, again this is typical of Hepplewhite Armchairs made in the second half of the 18th century, the pinnacle of the English Chair making tradition.
