Description:
Here is an example of a superb set of twelve antique French Louis XV style carved solid oak rush seated ladder-back dining chairs of the 3rd Republic period, circa 1920, in excellent condition. Featuring a shaped top rail with a floral carved motif and two further shaped rails below, in the form of a ladder back design within the shaped upright supports; the chairs feature “drop-in” rush woven seats, all of which are in good condition. The seats are raised on fine straight legs with cabriole feet to the front, with turned legs to the rear, all of which are united by elegantly turned stretchers for added strength and stability. The front legs are also united by a wavy stretcher with carved floral motif. The chairs are heavy in weight, which is a good sign of fine quality and it means they are sturdy.
Condition Report:
These antique ladder back dining chairs are in excellent condition. This is a true set of chairs; they have not been matched together from smaller sets of chairs, which is sometimes the case. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chairs feature rush drop-in rush woven seats, which show some signs of age and wear, but are perfectly in-keeping with the age of the chairs, they are solid in joint and are of good quality. The chairs have been glued and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. Therefore, they boast a fantastic patination and warm colour, and are solid in joint, they do not wobble and are ready to use.
