Description:
Here is an example of a superb antique French Louis XV style carved oak rush seated ladder-back dining chair of the 3rd Republic period, circa 1910, in excellent condition. Featuring a shaped top rail with two further wavy shaped rails below, in the form of a ladder back design within the shaped upright supports; the chair features a “drop-in” rush seat, which is in good condition. The seat is raised on fine cabriole legs to the front (which terminate on curled toecaps), with sabre legs to the rear. The chair is heavy in weight, which is a good sign of fine quality and it means it is sturdy.
Condition Report:
This antique ladder-back dining chair is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair features a rush drop-in seat, which shows some signs of age and wear, but is perfectly in-keeping with the age of the chair; it is solid in joint and of good quality. The chair is heavy, which is a sign of good quality and ensures it is sturdy. The chair boasts the original polish, which ensures a fantastic patination and warm colour to the oak. The chair is solid in joint, does not wobble and is ready to use.
