Georgian Mahogany Child's Chair

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A very unusual and early mahogany child’s chair. Furniture for the use of children was made right through the Georgian period it tended to basically copy the standard furniture, this however is a particularly fine Child’s chair copying the finest Georgian dining chairs of Hepplewhite design. The chair stands of straight tapered legs with spade feet and an elegant indented recess running the full length. The chair back typically shield shaped is elaborately carved with swags, wheat ears and a central wheel design. The whole is a rare survival of a Georgian child’s chair which has been used and had some repairs over the years but it very sturdy and usable today. The upholstery is a very old faded green velvet which had such a nice look and was so well put on that i decided to leave it, instead the webbing has been refreshed from underneath and a new braid added to the edge.

A rare survival with a wonderful period look and great country house style. C.1800.
