Large Georgian Giltwood Pier Mirror

A fine and decorative large Georgian giltwood pier mirror. The mirror is of a typical late Georgian design but unusually of a larger than normal size. The mirror plates are framed by barley twist columns rising to Corinthian capitals. The oversailing pediment has wonderful carved acorn drops where there would more usually be simple spheres. The mirror is in good worn country house condition, the gilding is the original, and there are some chips and wear to the gesso. The main mirror plate is the original and heavily foxed, the top plate I feel is a Victorian replacement which does also have some foxing but not as much. The whole has the most wonderful decorative worn antique look and is a most unusual design. C.1810.
