Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

This pair of early twentieth century desktop index filing drawers dates from 1900 in an office style, constructed from beech with a medium brown colour and a natural timber grain. The piece displays flush side panels, a twin drawer front, and aged brass label holder handles with integrated finger pulls. Signs of age include surface marks and scuffs on the top panels and wooden fronts. The cabinet stands 19 cm high, 51 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. In a modern home, this practical organisational piece sits on an office desk or library table to store stationery, small documents, or desk accessories. The sound and sturdy structure provides compact storage while maintaining a classic nineteenth century aesthetic.

FAQs

Index filing drawers emerged in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as standard equipment in offices, libraries, and institutions to store standardised index cards and record slips systematically.

These units were commonly constructed from durable hardwoods such as beech, oak, or mahogany, held together with joinery like dovetails, and fitted with brass or pressed steel label holders and drawer pulls.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age on metal hardware, such as natural patination on brass, alongside authentic drawer construction methods, interior follower blocks, and age-related wear on the timber base and sides.

They function effectively on an office desk or sideboard to hold stationery, art supplies, or small household items while adding historical character to contemporary workspaces.

Clean the surfaces with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to nourish the wood grain, and avoid exposure to excess moisture or direct heat sources.
