English Oak Military Roorkhee Campaign Chair

A nice example of a campaign Roorkhee armchair with leather strap arms and thick leather back and seat, showing great character and patina.

Named after the Head Quarters of the Indian Army Corps at Roorkhee, India circa 1898, this kind of portable chair was used by British officers not only in India but proved very popular during the Boer wars.

Being dry-jointed, this collapsible campaign chair folds up easily and quickly for transportation.

n.b. Front leather tie strap under the seat has been replaced at some time. The leather cord that ties the seat to the rear cross support is worn.
