Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian mahogany tub armchair, which has been newly upholstered, circa 1850, in excellent condition. The armchair boasts a stunning quality carved & moulded mahogany frame, with a buttoned reclining curved back, upholstered scroll end carved arms, set above a serpentine shaped moulded front rail. The apron is decorated with a finely carved floral cartouche and armchair is raised on moulded cabriole legs, with scroll toes to the front and splayed legs to the rear. All four legs terminate on the steel castors. The chair has been newly and professionally upholstered in a taupe grey colour cotton fabric, with pale blue braiding, as well as traditional hessian backing to the underside. The seat incorporates a sprung base, which is firm but extremely comfortable to sit on.

Condition Report:
This chair is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There appears to be a small section missing from the cartouche on the front of the seat frame. The chair has been newly upholstered in a taupe grey colour cotton material, with pale blue braiding, as well as traditional hessian backing to the underside. The upholstery is therefore clean and free from any marks or damage. The seat is well sprung and does not sag. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This chair is solid in joint and ready to use.
