Skippings Fine Arts has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
He took part in several World Exhibitions, obtaining an honorable mention in 1855, a bronze medal in 1867 and a silver medal in 1889.
Guillaume-Edmond specialised in top of the range replications of 18th century furniture, such as pieces in the Palace of Versailles or the Louvre. The artwork presented here is an exact copy of a wingback chair that was in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the turn of the century.
Of superb quality and sculpted in hard wood, the armchair has been beautifully reupholstered from scratch this year, in the traditional method, with new webbing, coil springs and natural fibres. A labour of love, this took over 150 hours of trained craftsmanship, with the upholstery now good to serve you for the next thirty years. I can vouch for this, as I am the one who did the work. The upholstery fabric used to cover the armchair "Ca' d'oro" Venetian silk heddle velvet by Tessatura Luigi Bevilacqua. The fabric retails at over £500 per metre. Luigi Bevilacqua velvet covers chairs in the Kremlin and in the Oval Room of the White House.
The back and the outside of the wings are covered with Jane Churchill Mali velvet.
This is a seat fit for a King or Queen - and, unlike much antique furniture, of dimensions that are comfortable for a 20th and 21st century person.
In excellent condition, the only old wear to the armchair is on the wood of the armrests - a souvenir from a claws of a previous owner's dog or cat which is not without charm!
