Carse Antiques has dated this piece to the Regency era.

At first I thought these chairs were Anglo Indian but as can be seen in the last picture below I found the exact chair in the book "The China Trade" by Carl L Crossman where it is described as being an English Regency design chair made in China for the European market.

The chairs are the most wonderful timber which has taken on a very pleasing mellow colour and patination over the years.
