Description:
Here is a good quality antique English late Victorian carved gilded portrait wall mirror, circa 1890, in excellent condition. The item features a bevelled glass mirror set into a carved oak frame. The mirror frame boasts profuse acanthus leaf open carvings, with a lovely gilt finish. The back of the frame retains its original backboards, along with a replacement chain (for safety reasons).
Mirrors of this period and design were usually constructed of oak, before a gilded finish was applied. The carving to the frame is crisp with a pleasantly balanced gilded finish to produce a lovely patination.
The item is a good practical size: it’s not too large and not too small, and therefore, it can be used in most locations to enhance the room. The mirror would look superb in several rooms from the hallway, bedroom or living room. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. Condition Report:
This mirror is in excellent condition. The frame, the carvings and backboards are all original. Nominal old use marks, to the leading edges of the frame. Importantly, there is no damage or missing pieces to the carvings. The back of the frame retains its original backboards, with a new safe solid chain. The bevelled mirror, which most likely a replacement, is in excellent condition, with no foxing or fading. This item is ready to be used.
