Description:
Here is a fabulous quality set of 10 antique English Victorian solid elm spindle bar back kitchen dining chairs, circa 1880, boasting a stunning colour, in excellent original condition. It is unusual to come across such a large set of chairs, which are sought after. The chair back and seats are constructed from solid ash & elm and feature a bowed bar back with a shaped top rail, which is connected to the solid elm seat by ring turned spindles and two sturdy shaped side supports. The seats boast stunning elm grain configuration and colour. The chairs are raised on ring turned front beech legs and simple turned rear beech legs. The legs are united by twin ring turned double stretchers to the front and simple turned double stretchers to the sides and back (for additional strength). Beech was commonly used to constructed chair legs because of its known robust properties. The shaped seats are firm but comfortable.
Condition Report:
These chairs are in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frames, legs and seats, but nothing significant considering the age of them. Any loose joints have been glued and the chair frames polished in our workshop. The chairs retain the original polish; therefore, they boast a fantastic patination and rich brown colour, which cannot be recreated if the chairs were re-polished. The chairs are solid in joint (owing to the design of twin stretchers, under the seats and sturdy back supports). They do not wobble and are ready to use.
