M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1880s.
. The circular inset backs decorated in carved relief with auspicious birds and prunus or cherry blossom on a rocky outcrop., each in opposing / mirrored aspect . The removable circular panels held by brass fittings to their edges.

The shapely open frames with carved scrolls , leaf and phoenix birds-head decoration . The seats with inset panels with chamfered edges , the fronts with a serpentine outline and shaped friezes below.

Superb heavy quality 'hongmu' timber which has achieved a deep rich colour and patina.
In excellent strong, original condition with no damage or repairs .
