Set Of 10 Victorian Hepplewhite Design Shield Back Carver Dining Chairs Attributed To Gillows

A beautiful set of ten Victorian mahogany cabriole carver arm chairs from a 1788 Georgian Hepplewhite design and probably made by Gillows. Featuring broad serpentine shaped sprung seats each chair has a pierced shield shaped back carved with ribbon tie and trailing bell flowers above a central oval medallion depicting flowers and foliage and palmette leaves below. With outward curving channelled arms and standing on square tapering legs with formal leaf carved capitals and spade feet, with rounded gently out-curved legs to the rear. All upholstered in brown hide leather with deep sprung seats, these are very comfortable with a generous width between the arms.
 
In good condition with no loose joints, some dents and marks consistent with age and use and lines and wear to the leather.
