Victorian Gilded and Painted Overmantel Mirror

19th century
Description

Circa 1880, unusual gilded and painted overmantel mirror. The top has a mounted and gilded cartouche with foliate carving, in a combination of gilded wood and gesso. The outer edge is beaded, with a concaved gilded section and recurring pattern, and it retains its original glass (in good condition). There is a gilded strap to the bottom and further foliate, rococo style carving in the form of base brackets.
